[ Concert ] Célébration enflammée : 20 ans de Wake the Dead par Comeback Kid

Le deuxième album de la formation canadienne Comeback Kid, Wake the Dead, est sorti en février 2005.

Pour célébrer les vingt ans de sa sortie, le groupe s’est lancé dans une tournée anniversaire.

Une escale à Québec était prévue initialement à la salle Montaigne, mais a finalement été déplacée à La Source de la Martinière.

La dernière fois que j’ai vu Comeback Kid, c’était justement à cette même salle, et ils étaient également accompagnés du groupe montréalais Prowl.

Ce soir marque la septième fois que je vois Comeback Kid en concert.

Mon tout premier show du groupe remonte à 2021, lors de l’édition spéciale d’Envol et Macadam, en pleine pandémie, au stade Canac à Québec.

En 2022, je les ai revus deux soirs d’affilée à guichets fermés à l’Anti Bar et Spectacles — c’était d’ailleurs la première fois que je photographiais le groupe.

Ils étaient de retour en 2023, accompagnés de leurs comparses Cancer Bats, encore une fois à La Source de la Martinière.

L’an dernier, j’ai eu la chance de les revoir à cette même salle, puis plus tard dans l’année, lors de la deuxième édition du Festival Au Lac.

En tout, j’ai eu l’occasion de les photographier six fois.

Place au spectacle !

La première partie était assurée par la formation trifluvienne Northwalk.

Comme toujours, ils ont livré une solide performance, idéale pour mettre le ton à la soirée.

Puis est arrivé Punitive Damage, une formation de Vancouver.

J’ai été agréablement surpris, je ne les connaissais pas, mais on sent clairement leurs influences punk.

Leur énergie était contagieuse, et la foule a embarqué du début à la fin.

Ce ne sera certainement pas la dernière fois que je les verrai — ils ont une présence scénique incroyable.

Ensuite, c’était au tour de Prowl.

Si vous aimez Power Trip, vous allez adorer ce groupe.

Je les décris souvent comme les Power Trip du Québec : c’est lourd, c’est agressif, et c’est exactement ce qu’on attend.

Je les avais déjà vus sur scène, et je vous recommande fortement d’y aller si vous avez l’occasion.

Leur présence scénique est aussi puissante que leur musique : ça brasse !

Fidèles à eux-mêmes, le concert a été brutal : moshpits, slams… tout y était.

Seul bémol : leur set était un peu court j’en aurais pris plus ! Mais l’intensité compensait largement la durée.

Le clou du spectacle : Comeback Kid

Enfin, le plat de résistance est arrivé : Comeback Kid.

Le groupe vétéran de la scène hardcore canadienne a livré une performance explosive.

On a eu droit à l’album Wake the Dead en entier en première partie.

La foule était en feu.

La taille de la salle rendait l’expérience très intime.

Slams et crowd surfing ont ponctué la soirée du début à la fin.

C’était, sans aucun doute, le concert le plus violent que j’ai vu du groupe à ce jour.

À plusieurs reprises, Andrew a tendu le micro au public pour qu’il chante avec le groupe.

Leur prestation était impeccable.

Comme à chaque fois, assister à un concert de Comeback Kid est une expérience unique.

À chaque fois, je me souviens pourquoi j’aime autant ce groupe : ils ont ce don de rassembler les gens et de leur faire vivre un moment intense et sincère.

Sérieusement, j’ai tellement hâte qu’une nouvelle date soit annoncée !

Même s’ils viennent souvent à Québec, c’est toujours une valeur sûre.

Blazing Celebration: 20 Years of Wake the Dead by Comeback Kid

The second album from Canadian band Comeback Kid, Wake the Dead, was released in February 2005.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the band embarked on an anniversary tour.

A stop in Quebec City was originally planned at Salle Montaigne but was ultimately moved to La Source de la Martinière.

The last time I saw Comeback Kid was actually at this very same venue, and they were also accompanied by Montreal band Prowl.

Tonight marks the seventh time I’ve seen Comeback Kid live.

My very first show was in 2021, during the special pandemic edition of Envol et Macadam at Canac Stadium in Quebec City.

In 2022, I saw them again for two sold-out nights in a row at L'Anti Bar et Spectacles — it was also the first time I got to photograph the band.

They returned in 2023, alongside their longtime friends Cancer Bats, once again at La Source de la Martinière.

Last year, I was lucky enough to catch them at that same venue, and later in the year during the second edition of the Festival Au Lac.

In total, I’ve had the chance to photograph them six times.

Let the show begin!

Opening the night was Northwalk, a band from Trois-Rivières.

As always, they delivered a solid performance — the perfect way to set the tone for the evening.

Then came Punitive Damage, a band from Vancouver.

I was pleasantly surprised — I didn’t know them beforehand, but their punk influences were clear.

Their energy was infectious, and the crowd was on board from start to finish.

This definitely won’t be the last time I see them — they have an incredible stage presence.

Next up was Prowl.

If you’re a fan of Power Trip, you’ll love this band.

I often describe them as Quebec’s Power Trip — heavy, aggressive, and exactly what you’d expect.

I had already seen them live before, and I highly recommend checking them out if you get the chance.

Their stage presence is as powerful as their music: it’s intense!

True to form, the show was brutal — mosh pits, stage dives… the full package.

Only downside: their set was a bit short — I could’ve used more! But the intensity more than made up for the length.

The highlight of the night: Comeback Kid

Finally, the main event: Comeback Kid.

The veteran Canadian hardcore band delivered an explosive performance.

They kicked things off by playing the entire Wake the Dead album.

The crowd was on fire.

The small venue made for a very intimate experience.

Stage dives and crowd surfing filled the night from start to finish.

It was, without a doubt, the most intense Comeback Kid show I’ve seen so far.

Several times, Andrew handed the mic to the crowd to sing along.

Their performance was flawless.

As always, seeing Comeback Kid live is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Every time, I’m reminded why I love this band so much — they have this incredible ability to bring people together and deliver something truly intense and heartfelt.

Seriously, I can’t wait for another date to be announced!

Even though they come to Quebec often, it’s always a sure thing.
