[ Album ] Deux oeufs tournés, bacon signé Obscure Mantra.

Je connais Obscure Mantra depuis environ 2021. Après les avoir vus à plusieurs reprises en concert, c’est un groupe à ne pas manquer ! Ils ont d’ailleurs fait partie de la dernière édition du Festival Au Lac à Granby. Ils ont su mettre le feu à la scène avec leur énergie : la foule était au rendez-vous ! Mosh pit et slam étaient présents dès les premières notes.

Leur nouvel EP, intitulé The Lonely Tower, sort aujourd'hui 4 juillet.

On commence sombre, très sombre, avec l’introduction de Heaven’s Mirage. S’ensuit une claque en plein visage. C’est violent, c’est entraînant, c’est parfait — cela annonce bien la suite. Six minutes de bonheur.

On enchaîne avec Buried Idols, et le groupe reste fidèle à ses habitudes : ça rentre au poste sur un moyen temps.

Je me rappelle encore, lors de leur prestation au FAL, Elrick avait demandé à la foule de faire du 2-step — les festivaliers avaient répondu avec brio !

Tout comme en concert, cette chanson est excessivement accrocheuse.

Le EP se poursuit avec le seul et unique single sorti pour le moment :

Lord of Terror.

Pour ceux qui ne l’ont pas encore entendu : si vous aimez votre deathcore bien gras, vous allez être servis. Elle fait le pont entre les deux premières chansons et les deux qui suivent.

Hollow Lies débute avec brutalité.

J’ai un faible pour cette chanson : une petite touche de musique progressive y est à l’honneur. Le groupe a su mélanger deathcore et prog avec brio.

Et pour clôturer :

Impossible de ne pas hocher de la tête ou faire de drôles de grimaces : c’est cochon — du deathcore extra bacon !

Elle conclut ce EP de manière magistrale.

Je donne un SOLIDE 10/10 pour cet EP.

Impossible de ne pas aimer : c’est groovy, les riffs de guitare sont excellents, la batterie sonne comme une tonne de briques, et côté vocal, tout est là pour nous plaire.

La production est impeccable.

Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas encore le groupe, c’est une excellente porte d’entrée.

I've known Obscure Mantra since around 2021. After seeing them live several times, I can confidently say: they’re a band you don't want to miss! They were even part of the most recent edition of Festival Au Lac in Granby. They absolutely set the stage on fire with their energy — the crowd was all in! Mosh pits and crowd surfing kicked off from the very first notes.

Their new EP, titled The Lonely Tower, is out today, July 4th.

The opening track, Heaven’s Mirage, starts dark — very dark. What follows is a straight-up punch in the face. It's heavy, it's catchy, it's perfect — a strong opening for what's to come. Six minutes of pure joy.

Next up is Buried Idols, and the band stays true to their roots: it hits hard, right out of the gate.

I still remember Elrick’s performance at FAL, when he asked the crowd to start 2-stepping — and the festivalgoers delivered like pros!

Just like in their live sets, this song is ridiculously catchy.

The EP continues with the only single released so far:

Lord of Terror

For those who haven't heard it yet: if you like your deathcore extra heavy, you're in for a treat. It bridges the gap between the first two tracks and the final two.

Hollow Lies comes in swinging.

I have a soft spot for this one — it features a touch of progressive influence. The band pulls off a seamless blend of deathcore and prog, and it works beautifully.

And to close it out:

The Lonely Tower...

It’s impossible not to nod your head or pull some wild facial expressions — it’s filthy — deathcore with extra bacon.

It’s a masterful conclusion to the EP.

I’m giving this EP a SOLID 10/10.

Impossible not to love: it’s groovy, the guitar riffs are outstanding, the drums hit like a ton of bricks, and vocally, it checks all the boxes.

The production is flawless.
